Cabin Fever

This past weekend we were invited by Gino (an old friend of Amanda and her siblings) and his wife Joanne to spend the weekend at a cabin in Wisconsin. Gino had won the weekend at a company raffle (or something like that). We drove up with Adam and Jessie, while David and Galya came up late Friday night after work.

The eight of us managed to pack the fridge full of goodies, it seemed as if we were planning on spending a week, and not a weekend, in the cabin... Hardly surprising, there were also some beverages involved.

Good food and beverages were consumed...

Bonfire!

The "cabin" probably sleeps like 20 people!

Shopping Success

It finally got nice out this week and we decided it would be safe to buy plants. We went for a walk in-between the thunder storm showers, up Clark towards Gethsemane. On our way there, we walked past the Swedish-American Museum, where they had Swedish football jerseys in the window. As I always end up wanting one for watching games in bars and such, I decided to get one:

My apologies for the bad hair... It was a rough Tom Collins night in the suburbs on Friday.

I also scored some sweet Swedish flag stickers for my bike! The red tire is new as of Wednesday, the old one had a serious bulge which I was worried would explode in a pothole.

We eventually made it to the garden center and got a long lecture from one of the employees on the topic of full sun vs. partial sun, west-facing windows vs. blinds down, and gross house plant pests. We decided that our best bet would be succulents, not much care (or water) needed. Aren't they cool looking?

This is the new good-looking window sill, until we put in the air conditioner monster again sometime next week.

The guy also told that we should be able to keep a hibiscus, so here's the one we bought to add some color and joy to our apartment life. Knowing our plant skills, these might be the first and only flowers to ever bloom on this plant...

Easter Weekend Recap

So this past weekend, the Black Kids/Mates of State show on Friday night was so good. Almost don't want to admit that I liked the Black Kids better. The photos of the show are not so blog worthy. My camera hates taking in focus photos at shows! Or maybe it had a few drinks.

Don't believe me? Check it out.

Easter day was spent at my parents' house. Nothing says Easter like the traditional lamb molded out of butter on a field of parsley.

And Raiden, tired from a day of trying to get the other dogs to play with him.

Easter Eggs

I made Anders dye Easter eggs with me this morning.

It was an elaborate process. I bought a kit that had nine colors in it - nine! - including blue AND "denim". What is the difference? I have no idea.

The results. My eggs are on the left and Anders' on the right.

We both have a lot of lame-o work to do around the house. But maybe we'll go for a walk soon on this pretty day. We're going to see Mates of State tonight and then out with friends. Yay!

Pretty Sky on Wolcott Avenue

When Amanda and I were cooking Tuesday night, she glanced across the room and pointed out a pretty sky through the rainy window.

Finally!

Today was a good day - 42 F when I woke up, perfect for biking! I have been forced to use public transportation since November...

Sunday Shopping

Today we woke up to a blizzard - lake effect snow was covering the ground and it was snowing sideways. We decided to fight it and make our way downtown for some shopping*. Well, it seemed like a good idea at first and it was probably good to get out from the apartment, but it sure was cold...

* A nice short break from typing...
